Subject:
Web Proxy Servers -
Why can't I access my training today?

PerforMax3 customer organizations frequently use sophisticated Web Proxy Servers to manage internet traffic. On some occasions the rules or filters implemented on proxy servers adversely impact access to MaxTrax and/or PerforMax3 web-based training.

For example, a filter may selectively block a particular file type either as a security measure or to restrict access for other reasons.  This issue surfaced in May at some US Air Force facilities where the proxy server selectively blocked files of type ".asf".  This filter setting prevents video files within our content from playing at these facilities.

Another feature of proxy servers is caching.  While caching is effective for many types of websites it can adversely impact LMS interactions with active training content.  To preclude these sorts of problems at your facility we recommend that you bypass caching for your PerforMax3 training website URL.  Specifically, for customers using Blue Coat Web Cache we recommend that you create a static route to bypass the cache and go directly to your internet service provider.

How can you trace a MaxTrax access problem
to proxy server settings?

You may be able to temporarily bypass your proxy server with a simple change in your browser settings. Once you've confirmed that the proxy server is the source of the issue, your network operations personnel can help determine what rule changes will be required to restore access to your training website.

Proxy servers are an important appliance for the protection of networks and computer resources.  Because of the ever changing nature of cyber threats, proxy server policies are regularly updated. As a result, connection and performance issue can crop up without warning.

The technical team at PerforMax3 will work with you to identify and resolve connection problems caused by web proxy servers.
